Whatever is Glory?

“God of our Lord Jesus the Anointed, Father of Glory:  I call out to You on behalf of your people. Give them minds ready to receive wisdom and revelation so they will truly know You.” Ephesians 1:17. The Voice.

From the chapter that has been called both the Alps of the Bible and the Grand Canyon of the Bible comes this verse which inspired the first line of the Possibility Prayer:

Mind! Awaken to Possibility!

  • Awaken to the possibility that your mind can be receptive to wisdom and revelation! You can know!
  • Awaken to the possibility that you can enjoy an intimate relationship with the Father of Glory!

First, what is glory? Does anyone have a definition? We have sung, “Glory to God in the highest” for centuries, but what is glory?

Here is my humble stab at it. If beauty is wholeness (peace) and harmony (joy) and radiance (love) and proportion (balance) and unity (blessing), then glory is lightyears beyond.

In Fr. Thomas Dubay’s fine book, The Evidential Power of Beauty, he writes,

“Divine beauty is so vastly superior to the very best of created splendors that we cannot come close to conceiving it. This is true of every divine perfection. God is not only the fullness of joy. He is the very essence of joy, purest ecstasy, delight without limit, supereminently. So also he is purest loveliness, purest wisdom, purest love, all with no end whatever…the favored word for the divine beauty is glory.”

(I have added the underlines above)

Mind! Awaken to Possibility!

Awaken to the possibility that you can be intimate with the Father of Glory!

Nothing is Impossible!

This morning I nearly overslept after three days of waking up during the 3 to 4 AM watch of the night. Now I’m home after full day of wonderful conversation and prayer with dear friends. Consequently, the writing for today has not been done. I heard the Lord say keep it short.  I’ll try!

My first friend of the morning shared her burden for America and the direction our country is going.

She asked, “How do you pray our country?”

I had taken her a photograph of women praying. In the wide border surrounding the photo I had written out the Possibility Prayer.

hands in worship

As we conversed, I sensed the answer to her question was to strike the hard ground of unbelief with the Possibility Prayer. Here it is again:

Mind! Awaken to Possibility!

Heart! Arise in Expectancy!

Soul! Rest in Tranquility!

Strength! Be Anchored in Humility!

Just as you can pray this prayer for yourself or your friend, you can pray it for a country. You may respond back that this is a prayer for those who believe in Jesus and love others. America doesn’t seem to believe in Jesus anymore.

I could respond back, “Yes, that seems true. However, this country was founded on a covenant relationship with the God of Bible. Do the research. You will find it. America has fallen asleep to her God. It is time for her to awaken to possibility.”

You see, to people in our culture, the problems we face seem insurmountable, but with God–all things are possible.

Muddle that around in your mind for the next 24 hours! Post that on your frig!

Do you know this God? This God for whom impossibility is impossible? This God who boldly proclaims in his book, “With God, nothing is impossible.”  Check it out in Luke 1:37 and Matthew 19:26.

Get to know this God. You’ll like him. He’s amazing!

Happy Birthday, Sweet Mama

Today is May 20, 2015. It is 3:54 AM. I am wide awake. Twenty days into my blogging on process, I have posted more this month than I have in the last year and a half! The more I unpack ‘process,’ the deeper I plunge into mystery! It is like snorkeling near the Captain Cook monument in Hawaii. Oh, the joy! The color! The variety of life beneath the deep blue sea.

But seriously, why am I awake? For one thing I remember today is the 100th anniversary of my mother’s birth. It makes me thankful she had me late in life so I can still be young! Imagine, if I had been born when she was 18?

Happy Birthday, Sweet Mama. I love you!

That’s really not why I am awake. I am stretching my blogging muscles. I am getting addicted to writing endorphins. Whether anyone reads it or not is perfectly fine. I am digging into the process. It is good. It is good like ripping out an old flower bed and replanting it with fresh new blossoms is good. At the end of the day your muscles ache, but the sense of accomplishment is like having all the gifts wrapped for Christmas a month in advance! Four weeks from now when the geraniums and petunias are established and flourishing you’ll sit in your garden and sip iced tea with your BFF and it will be good. Oh, so good!

garden flowers

But, like unpeeling the onion, that’s really not why I am awake. Lying in bed I was trying to figure out how not to internalize worry. When something is bothering you deep in your soul, it seriously can’t be good for your body. How do you let it go?

It was then that I turned my mind to the Possibility Prayer.

Mind! Awaken to Possibility!

As I pondered the backstory on this one line alone, honey glory oozed into all the achy crevasses of my soul. I felt rebirth and then I recognized the irony!

I have been placing my hands around my head in prayer commanding my mind to awaken with possibility and what happens?

I’m awake at 3 something in the morning for now three days in a row and I don’t regret one minute of this sleeplessness because I am awakening at a very deep level!

I am awakening to the healing process. And that’s not all. I can think of a dozen directions I could go next in unpacking this one line alone.

I stop in the reveal process to rejoice! Isn’t this what I asked for?

So how do you let go of those nagging worries? Shift! Get that Possibility Prayer flowing! Put your hands on your dome piece and call for your mind to awaken!

Mind! Awaken to Possibility!

Watch what happens! Nagging worries evaporate. You sense restoration flowing deep within your soul, your body.

You simply can’t entertain worry and possibility at the same time!

One idea and then I have to go–I could catch a bus to the world famous Pike Place Market and photograph possibility! Oh, wouldn’t that be glorious? Would you like that?

More Possibility

In the very first post on the Possibility Prayer, I mentioned that my inspiration was Ephesians 1:15-23 from the Holy Bible.

Let’s look at this passage so you can receive a greater understanding of the power and potential of this prayer.

First, are the recipients of St. Paul’s prayer?

People who fit two criteria:  1. People who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ. 2. People who love the saints–not as in dead Catholic ones, but living, breathing children of the most high God who have also placed their faith in Jesus Christ and rub shoulders with you in the trenches of life.

Why this criteria?

This is a prayer for a special class of people–people who exercise faith and love.

Faith in Christ and love for Christ’s brothers and sisters are the criteria for being a recipient of the possibilty prayer.

Why faith and love? Faith works by love. Faith pleases God. God is love.

God’s DNA flows through the individual who exercises faith to believe and love to respond. That’s why faith and love are the prerequisites for the Possibility Prayer. With God all things are possible. Not so much on our own. Have you noticed?

This is a POWER PRAYER. It is like breaking waves and a fast train. You will feel the wind that drives this prayer. It will change the atmosphere around you! You can’t pray a possibility prayer for someone who is pulling the weight on their own. It will never fly! It will be dead in the water.

train and wavesThe Possibility Prayer exerts tremendous power and potential! Faith and love are the simple prerequisites for its manifestation.

So if that is not you, yet, I would invite you to receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. You’re going to want to be on the receiving end of this prayer! Just like receiving the gift of this blog, it is all about receiving. You were not charged to read this blog. It is free. It is available to everyone. Not everywhere will avail themselves of it. They can. I’ve done all the work writing it. WordPress has done all the work creating the platform. It’s yours. It’s free.

Receiving the gift of life in Jesus Christ is accessed in the same way. It is free. It is available. You don’t have to clean up your act to receive it; just receive through faith. Simply ask. Invite Jesus Christ to be Lord of your life. Oh the joy…

Remember, faith is the key and love is the hand that turns the key of possibility!

free all because of love

Awaken to Possibility

Saddle Rock

This weekend, while camping at the Wenatchee Confluence State Park, I noticed some interesting rock formations high above the city. I focused on them wondering if there might be some hiking trails up there. Unfortunately, I did not take a picture to show you the view from the campgrounds; later the mountain was enshrouded by rain clouds. This is where you will use your imagination!

Saturday morning we bicycled from the state park to Pybus Market for the sheer joy of it. A beehive of activity greeted us. Booths were set up and choirs were singing amongst the cheese and apple cider. The Iris Society had a whole array of bearded iris staged in pvc pipe ‘vases’ and asked the public to vote for their favorite. I lingered among the iris for some time bemoaning the fact I did not bring my camera.

This iris from a natural setting will have to fill the picture spot here.

iris in nature

We wandered outside the market, and of course, that rocky formation peered down at me. After lunch, purchased from one of the venders, I sauntered back inside to complete the circuit of the booths. To my surprise, there was a booth with a map of the Wenatchee Foothills  Trails. When I inquired about the rock formation, the young woman from the Chelan-Douglas Land Trust pulled me over to a window and pointed up to the exact rocks I had been curious about. She offered directions on how to drive to the trailhead. Oh yay!

Possibilities abound!! Since we are dealing with process, here are my steps:

  • First, Notice the rock formation.
  • Second, Focus on them and the possibility they might be accessed by a trail.
  • Third, almost effortlessly, find yourself in the right place at the right time to learn that possibility could become reality.
  • Fourth, after supper we take a 20 minute drive and climb Saddle Rock.

Grand son hiking up saddle rock

  • Interestingly, we did not climb between the saddles but to the formation next to them.

From there, we looked down on what we had looked up at before! Sometimes reality is better than possibility.

puddle on top

The puddle at the very top. Who would guess in dry Wenatchee there would be a puddle at the very top of the mountain? To the right we could look across to the saddle which I apparently did take a picture of but discarded before I got the idea for this post. You will have to trust me!

Oh, and I found a photo op with a lone tree up there–albeit a dead one–which is why I headed for this promontory rather than in between the saddle.

dead lone tree

Yesterday I encouraged you to make declarations over your mind as in

Mind! Awaken to Possibility!

Pushing the envelope on possibility may seem difficult but have you ever noticed that when you begin to focus on something, like I did on this rocky formation, suddenly you see it repeatedly and eventually the information comes to you with very little effort?

What if possibility became your focus for the next 30 days?

Would it not show up at your front door ringing the door bell?

Try it for 30 days. Be a possibility pursuer! Now put your hands on either side of your dome piece, as my son-in-law calls it, and and repeat after me:

Mind! Awaken to Possibility!

From this one you can see the state park where we camped. It is the green wedge up near the widest point in the Columbia River. Keep your mind open to possibility. You never can tell what vantage point it may lead you to conquer!

Awaken! Arise!

I keep hearing these words. Awake! Arise!

How would your life change if your mind awoke and your heart arose? Before you rush through to read more. Stop and ponder.

How could your mind be more awake and your heart more alert?

What would you notice first?

Destiny awaits you! It is time! It is NOW time! The door of opportunity stands before you!

door of possibility

Come on up over the spirit of poverty and greed. Come up over complacency and apathy.

Come into the place of your flourishing.

You ask how do I do that?

It’s called shift.

Nothing happens in the Kingdom of Light without first a declaration.

Where does a declaration begin?

With mind shift. With heart shift. The mind and heart need to make some movement! Take some steps! Get some action!

What if you spoke this declarative prayer throughout your day for the next 30 days?

Mind! Awaken to possibility!

Do you ever feel like your mind is cast in stone? Maybe it looks like this picture. You are thinking the same thing you thought a decade ago–or a millennial ago.window of possibility 2

Begin speaking to your mind to open up to possibility, to awaken to opportunity.

What if you addressed your heart and spoke to it to arise and gaze through the window of opportunity? Maybe even give that window a tilt like my friends here. These are two of the biggest possibility dreamers I know! They are continuously stretching their hearts to arise!

window of possibility

Heart! Arise in expectancy!

What if you addressed your soul–that part of you that rides the rapids of highs and lows and declare that your soul rests?

                           Soul! Rest in tranquility!

What would hammock time produce in you? Give it a chance! Pause and meditate. Practice Psalm 131, “I have stilled and quieted my soul like a weaned child.”

What if you addressed your strength–that driving force that paddles its way to the front of the barrel to surf the waves of pride?

Strength! Be anchored in humility!

Let’s put that together.    hammock with Bible

Mind! Awaken to possibility! Heart! Arise in expectancy!

Soul! Rest in tranquility. Strength! Be anchored in humility!

Now why would you make this declaration?

Your destiny is at stake!

Let’s add the last part– “until I come into the full expression of my God-breathed identity and step into my Christ-formed destiny.”

Try making these demands on the four dimensions of your being that God commands are to love the Lord your God and your neighbor as yourself. For thirty days make these simple declarations over yourself, your spouse, your child, your friend and your neighbor.

Go ahead. Write them out on a few 3 x 5 cards. Post them where you’ll see it often. Speak them!

I believe this is one of the most powerful prayer you can declare over yourself and others. Hint:  it is a paraphrase of Paul’s prayer for the Ephesians from chapter 1:15-23.

Observe the shifts. I can assure you that you will awaken and arise  and discover new opportunities right at your door!

Beyond Expectation

We look at the future and think it is going to be one way and when it arrives it isn’t that way at all.

We couldn’t imagine that it would turn out this way.

“Beyond expectation.”

“Totally outside the box.”

“I never expected these kinds of results.”

Imagine for a moment that you are a tiny bug, almost microscopic. You are traveling up the slender column of a calla lily. You started in the warm soil down where the tuber sends out its tentacles and, on a whim, you picked the closest stem and began your journey. It seemed to take forever. Up! Up! Up you crept, up the smooth and satiny stem. You climbed so high you could look down and see the rubbery leaves with their hills and hollows. Dizzy with delight, you wondered if you should have taken that route instead, but, no, you’re committed. You are on your way to discover the secret of the calla lily.

Slowly the vivid emerald stem gives way to a yellow-green receptacle. You wonder if you are getting closer. You seem to be above the tree line, or should I say, leaf line? Thirty minutes later you note the green is softening and the texture is changing.

You have arrived at the blinding white petal. You are to the snow line. Thankfully, you find yourself in the shade.

Like the earth traveling around the sun, you explore the outside of the petal, but this is not what you came for. This is not your destiny to be on the outside. You came to explore the great inside, to behold the caldera. Suddenly you find yourself at an opening and you decide to check out the ridge. Up! Up! Up you traverse thinking an ice pick and some crampons would be nice. You come out into the sun and wish for goggles and sunscreen. No ski experience could be so tantalizing.

You are climbing the ridge on the outside, when suddenly, almost imperceptively, you reach a turning point. You have found access to the interior of the petal. You wonder how did this happen. I was outside. Now I’m inside. I hardly noticed the shift.

Nonetheless, it is glorious beyond words. You continue up the lip of the petal. Crazy extreme! Looking over the precipice you see across a great gulf of open space to the next blossom. Since you are higher, you look down and catch your first glimpse of the tip of the stigma. It is blinding! It is glorious. You teeter on the edge and then remember where you are. Cautiously, you step back, take a deep breath and carry on.

You notice a small rise in the landscape ahead. You traverse to the right and after several minutes of picking your way through the moguls you find yourself at the summit with the great abyss below. Out of it rises the glorious stamen.

It is simply beyond expectation!

Isn’t that how life is? You trudge onward and then in one moment you notice a shift has changed the atmosphere. It seemed so impossible yesterday, but here you are at your destiny!
