Something Wonderful is About to Happen!

Wednesday morning found me winding my way down Mukilteo Boulevard toward a favorite trailhead. It is mostly a residential neighborhood except for one cluster of commercial buildings. J-Lee Floors has been there for years. In front of this store is a signboard that read, “Always believe that something wonderful is about to happen.”

I like that. Just home from vacation, I had to face some business issues that did not make my heart sing. In fact, the approaching end of the month filled me with dread. I had a choice—throw in the towel or rise up and pursue possibility.

These words replayed in my mind, “always believe that something wonderful is about to happen.” My husband has been reading Dr. Caroline Leaf’s book Switch on your Brain and told me that the Think and Grow Rich book is right on target with the way our minds work.

Hmmm. What if I daily practiced this recommendation? What might happen both in my business and in other areas of my life? What if I could find a few people to join me in this experiment? We could do a thirty day trial. Think about it.

Reflecting some more, I noted that the outcome of receiving the Wonderful involves a critical component—belief.

A gratitude jar sits on my counter. You probably have one, too. It had been quite some time since I put anything into it. How about yours? It’s not that I’m not thankful, I am. Gratitude is great, but belief followed by results, that is wonderful! It reminds me of faith.

Faith pleases God.

Faith works by love.

Faith is setting your mind, your heart, your intentions on an expectation for good and not for evil.

What if I renamed the Gratitude Jar? I’ll call it, uh, the Something ‘Wonder’ Full jar?

Why will I spell it that way? Because it spotlights the word “wonder.” Wonder is that element that little children possess when they run to show mommy a first-time discovery.

Recently I read that the Fear of the Lord is more about wonder than dread. Most people think dark thoughts about God when they hear this phrase. It inspires fear, so they recoil.

What if the fear of the Lord really is ALL about wonder?

I sure like wonder more than dread. Don’t you? I like hiking the woods and discovering hidden treasures like blooming trillium or giant back-lit leaves or rushing waterfalls.

I like to be plumb full of wonder at the lovely surprises my Heavenly Father has tucked away for me to discover.

So I have renamed my Gratitude Jar. It is now the Something “Wonder” Full Jar. Today, I sat down and began to write out the wonder-filled experiences and opportunities that have come my way since I decided to “Believe that something wonderful is about to happen.” I have even had some business wins!

Would you like to join me? Try it for 30 days. Re-label your gratitude jar. Let’s see what exciting opportunities and warm affirmations begin to emerge as we apply belief—that old fashioned faith—to possibility.

Something Wonderful IS About to Happen!

Let me know if you are up for this experiment because wonder has far more to do with experiences and opportunities and insights than does dread.

I don’t need more dread; I need more wonder!

How about you?

About Your Flourishing Life

As a child, Marlee Huber loved to ramble through gardens sampling juicy berries and delighting in the heady fragrance of roses. As an adult, she thrills at maintaining a country garden in the foothills of the Washington Cascades. Something happened in 2012 that changed everything for Marlee. She followed the love of her life as he bicycled across the continent from their home in the NW to his brother's home in the Virginia. Ninety days later she came home and has never been the same. After photographing the backroads and hamlets across America--all on auto, she came home and took an online photography course, read dozens of books on technique and vision and stepped out into a new career. Her passion is coaching young people to discover their brilliance. She calls it Life-Themes Coaching and during one nearly half-day session, she unpacks what makes you brilliant and one of a kind. Then she matches the discoveries with a photography session where she tells the story of your life with her camera. In her personal life, she is a wife, mother, and grandmother delighting in her flourishing family!

    Dear Marlee,
It is always such an inspiration to read your blog. I have been through the same process many times. Knowing Faith in Gods goodness and undeserving willingness to bless us is the only way to live, but…….sadly I often fall back into bad habits…Hmmm…I too am contemplating closing my florist business. I saw your email last week, but only read it this morning after opening the shop. Yes Marlee, I too will start my expect something Wonder filled and I have already shared with one of my customers who said that is just what she needs to do. Great expectations to follow. God bless you, Maree Nilson from Australia xx

    • Dear Maree,

Today was a beautiful day spent with family at our country cabin. We walked to town for breakfast enjoying the magnificent sunshine on our backs. We returned to the cabin through the lush green forest and sat on the deck in the May 1 sunshine, unseasonably warm for this time of year. We ate lunch outside at our picnic table and then drove back to the city. My expectancy was extended for “Something ‘Wonder’ Full.” We experienced a lovely day, but nothing that jumped out at me as being in response to my expectations and faith. Then I opened my email and saw your comment to my blog. I am humbled. It has been too long since I have blogged. I didn’t know anyone would read my message and take it to heart, let alone someone so very far away. I didn’t know anyone would share my musings with another who would take the message to heart and find it just what was needed. Today, I will put your name and comment on a little note card place it in my “Something ‘Wonder’ Full” jar. You have blessed me beyond anything you can imagine. You are my “Something ‘Wonder’ Full” for today!

I wish you all the best–God’s timing and direction in your business decisions–and “Something ‘Wonder’ Full” to let you know that the God of faith responds to your faith.

      Marlee Huber
